FTP Instructions for Mac OSX Clients

Unlike Windows Explorer, Macintosh does not have a FTP login feature in its internet browsers (Safari, Firefox, or Windows Explorer). In order to upload a file to an FTP site you would need to use an FTP application. Media Supply recommends the application "Fetch" from Fetchsoftworks.com for uploading files to Media Supply's FTP site from Macintosh. Fetch has a 15 day trial period. After the trial period you can purchase a single-user license for $25 US (sales tax and VAT not included). Educational and charitable users may apply for a free license. In talking to Apple support we have found a series of other FTP applications you could use as well, some of which are free. These FTP applicatons were recommended to us by Apple Support, so you can feel secure in downloading them:

Fetch - We have used for years. Easy to use and Media Supply can help you with your FTP upload when using this application.

Cyberduck - Easy to use FTP Client. You will get repeating requests to donate when closing the application.

Rbrowser - RBrowser has a Lite mode that is free

Fugu - Fugu is a good free SFTP client

Transmit - Apple tech said they had used it for years without problems.

Uploading your file(s):
Once you login you will land in our "incoming" FTP folder. Once inside create a new folder for your company and give it your company's name. You can then drag and drop your files into your folder on our FTP server. All FTP clients will give you and estimate of how long the upload should take and will also let you know when it is done.

Once uploaded, we can get your project started.

Here are some tips for using the ftp link below:

  • Create a folder with your company name – to make sure that all of your art files are in their own folder.
  • Compress/Zip the file to avoid file corruption when uploading.
  • The file names CANNOT contain spaces or odd characters.
  • Click on the FTP link below. When the window opens, right click and choose "Login As." Then enter the username and password supplied by your customer service representative.
  • Once logged in, just drag and drop your art files onto the window. You will see your files being uploaded.
